Artist Statement

Celeste Palace is an artist from Florida who explores the limitations and beauty of

girlhood connecting to womanhood, specifically through redefining female fragility. She

draws inspiration from problems within purity culture and the portrayal of “crazy” women

in the media. Palace uses embroidery as her main focus, creating works simultaneously

tender and violent.

Her artistry incorporates printmaking, sculpture, photography, and drawing to express the conflict between comfort and fear. Her subjects mainly comprise of women on the verge of

violence, depicted by using a more “feminine” practice like embroidery. In her sculptural art she explores the contrast between blunt materials such as hard candy and plaster, with delicate materials used in her soft sculptures like ribbon and fabric.
